The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Federal Projects Implementation, Chief Emmanuel Obasi has expressed dismay at the slow pace of work at the site of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Lokoja being constructed by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The Special Adviser was shocked to discover that no meaningful work has been done at the site by the Construction Company incharge, Steadylane Nigeria Ltd since his last visit to the site earlier this year.
The Federal Government awarded the Contract for the Federal Secretariat Complex in Lokoja in 2023 under President Mohammed Buhari but the contractor was mobilised to site in early 2024. Initially, the bad terrain of the site located along Hassan Katsina Road, Zone 8, Lokoja caused by hitches to the smooth take off of the project by the contractor which led to several amendments to the project design but it is expected that by now the second floor of the project should have been completed.
During an inspection of the site, the Special Adviser observed that only one section out of the three sections of the massive complex has attained DPC level, while ordinary columns for the 3rd section has not been fully planted.
He lamented that when he noticed the slow pace of work at the site last year, he complained to the Contractor who strongly assured him that terrible terrain of the site and not funding was the issue and wondered why a project that is expected to be completed next year,is still at the level of less than 5% execution.
He was also unhappy to see that all the offices were locked and site abandoned while only one human being was planting column in such a massive project to give the impression of ongoing work to casual observers.
Chief Obasi therefore called on the Contractor to return to site immediately to continue the project to cover lost grounds and ensure that the project is completed on schedule to enable it’s Inauguration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the end of his first tenure.
The Special Adviser called on the Federal Controller of Housing in Kogi State to urgently find out what is delaying the speedy execution of the project and sort it out considering the importance of the Federal Secretariat to Federal Government workers in particular and the State in general.
