The Kogi State Police Command and joint security forces have rescued all 21 persons abducted in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps.
The victims were freed during sustained, intelligence-led operations in Egume forest and adjoining bushes.
Police authorities said 10 corps members were earlier rescued from Egume forest, while the remaining 11 victims were rescued on Sunday following intense pressure mounted on the abductors, who abandoned their captives and fled.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, disclosed this in a statement on August 31, 2026.
According to her, the rescued victims are receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing.
She added that one of the victims who sustained a gunshot injury to the right leg is currently receiving treatment, stressing that no fatality was recorded during the operation.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, Department of State Services and other supporting security agencies.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives and appreciated residents of the affected communities for providing credible information that led to the success of the operation.
He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice, while urging residents to remain calm, vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information capable of jeopardising security operations.
