The Workplace Security Campaign for Tinubu/Ododo 2027 has kicked off in Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, who flagged off the campaign in Okene, urged workers to remain security-conscious and protect their jobs by making informed political choices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Edoka said the campaign was initiated to sensitise local government workers to workplace security, vigilance and preparedness.
He said the exercise was also to highlight the need for continuity of government policies and programmes that directly impact workers’ welfare.
According to him, the gains recorded by President Bola Tinubu at the federal level and Governor Ahmed Ododo in Kogi State must be consolidated.
He said Ododo had placed workers’ welfare at the centre of his administration.
He noted that Kogi State was among the first states to implement the new minimum wage and went beyond the minimum requirement, with full salaries paid to local government workers.
The SA also listed the payment of full hazard allowances to doctors and other health workers, health insurance for workers and pensioners, promotion and payment of promotion arrears, leave bonus, and the provision of three buses for the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council as some of the administration’s achievements.
He said the interventions had created a conducive work environment and fostered industrial harmony in the state.
Edoka urged workers to shun what he described as “politics of mischief” and vote for policies that guarantee their welfare and job security.
“Security is a collective responsibility, either in the workplace or beyond. Government is committed to providing leadership and resources but cannot do it alone”
“The political will is the foundation of all security progress. Governor Ododo is ready for all-round protection of lives and property. Workers’ jobs are not an exception,” he said.
Edoka thanked the workers for the warm reception and promised that their concerns would be addressed.
Also speaking, the Senior Technical Advisor to the Governor on Urban Development, Chief Godwin Edime, said continuity was crucial to sustaining the pro-worker policies of the Tinubu and Ododo administrations.
He urged workers to support their re-election.
The Kogi State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Gabriel Amari, said labour’s support for the campaign was based on verifiable achievements of Governor Ododo’s administration.
Amari said the governor had demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare without waiting for pressure from organised labour.
He urged workers to sustain the cordial relationship between government and labour.
The Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees in Okene LGA, Comrade Yakubu Ishaq, assured the team that workers would intensify sensitisation to achieve the campaign’s objectives.
In Ogori-Magongo LGA, the NULGE Chairman, Comrade Alabi Shole, commended Edoka for the initiative, describing the visit as timely and unprecedented.
Earlier, the Vice Chairman of Ogori-Magongo LGA, Mr Williams Aiso, who received the delegation, described organised labour as a dependable ally in every democracy and stressed the need for sustained engagement between labour and government.
Other industrial union chairmen and political appointees were part of the campaign team.
The sensitisation programme was themed, “Workplace Security: Protection, Sensitisation and Preparedness Against Banditry and Kidnapping.”
