The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Kogi State Chapter, has pledged stronger collaboration with the Kogi State Town Planning and Development Board to accelerate sustainable physical development across the state.
The commitment was sealed during a courtesy visit to the Board’s headquarters in Lokoja, where the newly elected leadership of the NITP Chapter formally presented itself and outlined areas of mutual interest.
Leading the delegation, NITP State Chairman, Tpl. Sani Daniel, FNITP, said the Institute is ready to partner on continuous professional development, urban renewal programmes, and the adoption of modern planning technologies.
Mr Daniel commended the Board for maintaining development control and promoting sustainable urban development “despite prevailing challenges,” but argued that stronger ties would enhance planning administration and improve compliance with planning standards.
“We are ready to support you in preparation and review of physical development plans, planning research, policy formulation, and public enlightenment on planning regulations,” he said.
The General Manager of the Board, who received the delegation, welcomed the overture and highlighted recent reforms, including a review of state planning legislation, restructuring of key departments, and preparations for urban renewal in Kabawa and Lokoja.
A major highlight was an interactive session with retired town planners who previously worked at the Board.
The retirees underscored the need to review the Lokoja Master Plan, strengthen development control, revitalise low-cost housing programmes, and protect public open spaces.
They also urged the Board to enforce planning standards and preserve archival records to support future urban renewal initiatives.
Both organisations ended the meeting with a commitment to deepen collaboration on orderly physical planning and improved service delivery across Kogi State.
