The Kogi State Town Planning and Development Board is proposing an ambitious urban renewal programme for Kabbawa, with the backing of the Maigari of Lokoja.
The General Manager of the Board, TPL Abdullahi Abocheyina Yusuf led the delegation to the Palace on Thursday to present the project and secure royal support.
The Board plans to transform Kabbawa into a cleaner, safer urban environment while protecting its historical and cultural identity.
“The programme will focus on improving road networks, environmental sanitation, public infrastructure, recreational facilities and educational amenities,” Yusuf told the traditional ruler.
The renewal initiative will produce a comprehensive development plan for government consideration. Technical surveys, including aerial mapping and drone technology, will support the planning phase. The General Manager noted.
“We will ensure that all historical sites, traditional institutions and cultural landmarks are identified, protected and incorporated into the planning proposals,” Yusuf assured the Palace.
The Maigari welcomed the proposal, describing it as “a laudable step towards restoring the historic community to its pride of place.”
He urged the Board to prioritize water quality and sanitation issues while maintaining Kabbawa’s historical identity.
The Royal Father pledged the Palace’s full cooperation, committing to work closely with the planning team throughout the project.
