The Independent National Electoral Commission has unveiled a self-service online voter registration platform for first-time voters, and extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise by two weeks.

The commission said the new registration deadline had been moved from July 10 to July 26, 2026, to give more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register ahead of future elections.

INEC disclosed this in a statement on Friday, signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

He said the decisions followed a review of the nationwide CVR exercise and feedback from the commission’s state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

According to the statement, the online self-service registration option will become operational on Wednesday, in a dedicated CVR portal.

It explained that the platform would allow eligible first-time voters to complete their registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices without visiting an INEC office.

The commission said the digital system incorporates identity verification, biometric validation and backend checks to preserve the accuracy of the National Register of Voters.

It said the extension of the CVR exercise underscored its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair opportunity to be included in the voters’ register.

INEC urged citizens yet to register to take advantage of the extended window and the new registration option.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration process.
