The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has said peace and unity remain the foundation for sustainable development and prosperity in the state.
Hajia Sefinat stated this on Saturday during a one-million-women march organised by the Bassa Women for Tinubu/Ododo Group in Oguma, Bassa Local Government Area, in support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Ododo.
Represented by the wife of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Princess Karimat Muiz Abdullahi, the First Lady noted that a peaceful atmosphere would enable the government to channel more resources to infrastructure, empowerment programmes and appointments, rather than expending huge funds on managing crises and communal conflicts.
She urged the people of Bassa LGA and the state at large to shun bitterness, embrace peaceful coexistence and remain united to attract more government projects to their communities.
Hajia Sefinat explained that the Tinubu administration had created more opportunities for women in governance and national leadership, adding that Governor Ododo had begun addressing some of the requests presented by stakeholders in the area.
She assured that additional requests made during the event would be conveyed to the governor for consideration.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Muhammed Mukhtar Shuaibu, commended the First Lady for ensuring that interventions from the First Lady of Nigeria got to women in the state.
Shuaibu lauded her humanitarian and empowerment programmes for women, the elderly, girls, widows and persons with disabilities across the state.
He pledged the continued support of the people of Bassa LGA for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and the Ododo administration beyond 2027.
Earlier, the convener of the programme and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim, said the march was organised to demonstrate the support of Bassa women for Tinubu and Ododo.
Haappealed for increased government interventions and development projects in the area, while assuring the administration of the people’s continued support.
