Youths in Okunland, Kogi State, on Saturday, endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Ododo for second terms in 2027.
The endorsement was made at a political rally organised by the Okun Youth Alliance Movement at the GYB Civic Centre in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.
The rally, tagged OYA 2027 Election Endorsement Rally, attracted youths from across the five local government areas of Okunland, with participants filling the 1,500-capacity hall and spilling into adjoining streets.
Addressing the gathering, convener of the movement, Oladele Nihi, said the endorsement of Tinubu was based on his administration’s interventions in Kogi State, particularly in Okunland.
Nihi cited infrastructure development and the appointment of Kogi indigenes, including Okun sons and daughters, into strategic positions in the Federal Government.
He listed some of the appointments to include the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, among others.
According to him, the appointments showed increased inclusion of Okun people in national governance under the Tinubu administration.
He also said the group’s endorsement of Governor Ododo for a second term was based on what he described as the governor’s performance and development initiatives across the state.
Nihi said the youths were interested in continuity to enable ongoing programmes and projects to be sustained.
He urged Okun youths to remain actively engaged in governance and political processes beyond elections and to contribute to shaping policies and development priorities in their communities.
The rally also featured speeches and solidarity messages from youth leaders and other stakeholders from across Okunland.
The organisers said the gathering demonstrated the growing political consciousness and mobilisation of Okun youths ahead of the 2027 general elections.
