The Kogi State Chapter of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria ISPON, has directed heavy duty vehicles to stop using the Meme -GYB junction road from Monday next week.
The Chairman of ISPON and Chief consultant to Kogi State Government on Safety Standard and Compliance, Elder Friday Sani Makama gave the directive during a news briefing in Lokoja.
Elder Sani said henceforth, all heavy duty vehicles should use the zone eight junction to Crusher Toll gate route.
He said the decision was informed due to the fact that the continued use of the Meme – GYB Junction route has destroyed the road.
The ISPON State Chairman said the the Meme bridge- GYB junction road was not for the use of Heavy duty vehicles explaining that it was the reason that the road gets damaged whenever Heavy duty trucks plied it.
Elder Sanni noted that from Monday next week, law enforcement agents will be stationed at the Meme bridge spot of the road to ensure compliance.
“This illegality of heavy truck operators is now causing a total destruction to the said road. This is now leaving us with the only alternative of enforcing our mandate in this regard.
Accordingly, as from 31st August any heavy truck or Trailer found on the said road shall be arrested so all trailers and heavy trucks are advised to use the house of Assembly Road that connect crusher or GYB junction” Elder Sani warned.
He said one of the duties of the Safety Professionals in the state are to ensure continuous inspections of Companies, Industries and infrastructures of Government to ensure protection of same in the interest of the public.
The Chief consultant to Kogi State Government on Safety Standard and Compliance, commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his overwhelming support for the organization to do its work effectively in the state.
