The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims circulating in a publication alleging that it has increased its registration fees, describing the report as false, misleading and entirely unfounded.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Board’sSpokesperson , Fabian Benjamin, clarified that JAMB has not reviewed its fees upward and that the approved charges for its services have remained unchanged since 2019, despite rising operational costs.
According to the Board, the current approved registration fees are ₦5,700 for Direct Entry (DE); ₦7,200 for UTME only (without Mock); and ₦8,700 for UTME with Mock. It explained that the charges cover components such as application fee, reading text, CBT centre registration and service charges, bank charges and, where applicable, mock examination fees.
JAMB recalled that in 2018, the Federal Executive Council approved a reduction of the UTME application fee from ₦5,000 to ₦3,500, which took effect from the 2019 registration exercise. Since that government-approved adjustment, the Board said it has maintained the same fee structure without any increment.
The Board urged prospective candidates, parents and guardians to disregard the publication and rely solely on information released through its verified platforms and official advertisements.
It also advised candidates to carefully read its official registration guidelines to avoid being misled or exploited by dishonest individuals or centres.
Furthermore, JAMB appealed to any candidate who may have paid more than the officially approved fees to promptly report such centres with credible evidence, assuring that appropriate investigation and disciplinary action would be taken against any erring CBT centre.
The Board reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of candidates’ interests at all times.
