Kogi Assembly Speaker to Lead Colleagues to State Broadcasting Corporation’s 35th Anniversary Celebration

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf will lead members of the legislature to the State Broadcasting’s 35th Anniversary Celebration in Lokoja.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed indicated that the Speaker gave the assurance on Thursday when he hosted the Director General of the Corporation, Princess Nanahawa Yusuf.

Rt. Hon. Umar described Radio as a veritable tool for mobilisation, social cohesion and the dissemination of information that promote the unity of the people.

The Speaker noted that radio broadcasting transcends all barriers, stressing that since its inception, Radio Kogi has done a lot to bring the the people of the state together and promote the culture of Kogi in other parts of the nation.

Rt. Hon. Umar praised the station for the robust coverage it has continued to give to the activities of the Assembly and the lawmakers, noting that such gesture has contributed in informing the people about their elected legislators.

He praised the administrations of both the former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the incumbent, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for their love for the corporation and the support they are giving to the media landscape in geberal to ensure growth and development of the state in the sector.

According to him, the current Assembly has sustained its commitment towards the ensuring support for laws that would enhance the operation of the media, noting that freedom of the press remains one of the cardinal objectives of the present Assembly.

He said the legislature is prepared to back whatever amendment or law that would assist Radio Kogi to flourish more, adding that the decision of the present administration to establish booster stations in some underserved communities in the state was worthy of commemdation.

Other lawmakers who contributed to the discussion applauded the DG of Radio Kogi for her continuous efforts towards ensuring the sustainance of the operations of the station.
