The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Kogi State Chapter, has announced plans to confer a National Safety Award on the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, in recognition of his commitment to the protection of lives and property.
The award will be formally presented during the official inauguration and induction of new members of the institute in the state, scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Grand Royal Hotel NIWA Quarters, Lokoja.

In a statement issued by the Kogi State Chairman of the Institute, Elder Dr. Friday Sani Makama, explained that Governor Ododo was selected for the honour due to his administration’s deliberate policies aimed at strengthening safety standards and improving security across the state.
“Governor Ododo has carved a niche for himself in the area of safety of lives and property across board. His administration has demonstrated uncommon commitment to creating a secure and safety-conscious environment for citizens and investors alike,” Makama stated.
He described the forthcoming inauguration as historic, noting that the institute, established in 1980 by an Act of Parliament, continues to play a pivotal role in promoting safety professionalism nationwide.
“The establishment and strengthening of the Institute’s presence in Kogi State is historic. It signals that the state is on the path of growth and institutional development. This is the first time we are witnessing this level of structured attention and respect given to human lives in the governance of the state,” he said.
Makama further emphasized that the recognition of the governor was based on merit and measurable impact.
“This award is not political; it is professional. It is based strictly on performance, safety compliance initiatives, and the enabling environment provided for safety institutions to thrive,” he added.
Other key officials expected to receive awards at the event include the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Commissioner for Solid Minerals, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Director, Federal Fire Service, Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kogi State and the State APC chairman in acknowledgement of their contributions to enhancing public safety and security.
The ceremony is expected to attract safety practitioners, government officials, security agencies, and other stakeholders from within and outside the state.
