Local government workers in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday passed a vote of confidence in Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo over what they described as his outstanding performance.
The workers, under the auspices of grassroots unions in the area, said the decision was informed by the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
Speaking on behalf of the unions, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the area, Comrade Friday Onaji, said labour leaders in the council were resolute in their support for the administration.
Onaji said Ododo had “rewritten the story of local government workers” since assuming office, and assured of massive support for his re-election.
He also commended the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, and his team for making impact in the administration.
In his remarks, Edoka said the visit was part of a workplace security sensitisation campaign aimed at educating workers on the importance of security and the need not to compromise the safety of their jobs.
He praised labour leaders in Ankpa for the impressive turnout and commended workers for their solidarity.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Sule Ahmed Tijani, explained the relevance of the sensitisation exercise and urged workers to support the administration to secure their future.
Receiving the team on behalf of the council Chairman, the Director of Local Government, Alhaji Shaibu Ahmed Usman, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the present administration, particularly in the area of workers’ welfare.
Usman described Edoka as a worthy ambassador of Ankpa Local Government Area and thanked the state government for appointing him as Special Adviser on Labour Matters.
