The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has assured the people of the State of the State Government commitment to quality tertiary education in state.
The Commissioner made this known when he received a team from the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, his office on Thursday in Lokoja.
The Commissioner who commended the team for the visit assured that the State Governor, Alhaji. Usman Ododo would fulfilled his responsibilities towards tertiary education in the state.
Hon. Jones while commending TETFUND for it’s development strides in Tertiary Institutions in the State assured that the state government would not shy away from fulfilling its responsibilities.
According to him, “We will see what we can do to ensure we do not to abandon our responsibilities to PAAU, but we are focusing more attention on the two newly established Universities.
“PAAU is our own university and we will not abandon the school as well as other government owned tertiary institutions in the state”.
The State he said would continue to do the needful, synergy and work together with Federal Government and none Governmental Organizations towards ensuring the development of education at all levels in the state.
He reaffirmed the State Government commitment to providing necessary funds and resources to make sure that Tertiary Institutions in the State become true centers of academic excellence and character moulding, while also implementing policies and reforms to improve quality and make Education accessible to all.
The commissioner commended the efforts of the Lecturers and old student of the Faculty for making various impacts in the Faculty in areas of infrastructural development and other support.
He assured the team of the support of his office whenever the need arise.
In his remarks the Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences, Prince Abubarka Audu University Anyigba, Professor. Juwon Johnson Orugun, said the visit to the Hon. Commissioner was to pay homage to him and also to intimate him of their quest to taking the faculty and the university to higher level.
He noted that as a faculty that has existed for 24 years and has produced over 12,000 students the Faculty and the University would tap into the available human resources to improve on the quality already established by the University.
The Faculty he said would be taken to the higher level and effort was being made to get across to Old Students to improve on the infrastructural facilities in the Faculty, saying that Government can not do it alone.
He thanked the Governor for appointing Four of the Old Students of the Faculty as Commissioners and other notable individuals in his administration.
