PAAU Senate Approves Resit Examination For Final-year Students

The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, has approved resit examinations for eligible final-year and spill-over students with outstanding courses.

The approval was given at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following a proposal by the Director of Academic Planning and Development, Prof. Joseph Olukayode Ogunbiyi.

According to the Senate, the programme, which will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, is designed to reduce cases of spill-over and enable students to complete their studies within the approved tenancy period.

It is meant for final-year and eligible spill-over students who had previously registered for, sat and failed courses required for graduation.

Under the new policy, eligible students must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 1.00, must not have exhausted the approved tenancy for their programmes, and must have been screened by their departments and faculties.

The Senate said students who registered for courses in the regular semester but failed to sit for the examinations would not be eligible.

It noted that eligible students may register for a minimum of one and a maximum of 10 courses, subject to the normal credit-load provisions of the university.

The university stated that applications would be processed through Heads of Department and Deans after scrutiny of academic records, while successful applicants would obtain bursary clearance before registration.

Speaking after the approval, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, described the programme as a strategic intervention to reduce insecurity associated with over-stayed students, lessen financial burden and ensure timely graduation.

Usman commended the director of academic planning for the initiative and the Senate for its commitment to students’ academic progress.

He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to student-centred policies that promote academic progress and welfare.

The Vice-Chancellor also promised to preserving the integrity of the university’s academic system, and urged students to take advantage of the opportunity.
