Members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Integrity Group in Benue South Senatorial District have declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group announced its position on Friday during a courtesy visit to Senator Moro, saying its decision was guided by the interest of Benue South and the need to sustain effective representation in the National Assembly.
Led by its Zonal Coordinator, Hon. Yakubu Audu, the group said it would support Senator Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Benue South senatorial election, despite belonging to the NDC.
Audu said Senator Moro’s experience in the National Assembly and his current position as Senate Minority Leader had provided the district with a strong voice at the federal level.
He said the group was therefore adopting an electoral coalition approach that would allow it to support candidates across party lines based on its assessment of the interests of the people.
The State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Emmanuel Orih, said the position also aligns with the Benue State Strategic Alliance associated with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
Orih said the group had chosen President Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate while backing Senator Moro for the Benue South senatorial election.
He explained that the decision reflected the group’s desire to support candidates it believes can contribute to the development and effective representation of the people.
Responding, Senator Moro thanked the NDC Integrity Group for placing what he described as the interests of Benue South above partisan considerations.
He said political alliances could provide opportunities for people across different political parties to work together in pursuit of common interests.
Moro also commended ongoing federal infrastructure projects in Benue State, particularly the Abuja-Keffi-Makurdi road, which he said demonstrated the Federal Government’s attention to infrastructure development in the state.
He urged the people to assess candidates based on their records, programmes and capacity to deliver on their promises.
Moro further encouraged the people of Benue South to remain confident in their ability to influence political developments and contribute meaningfully to governance.
The declaration is part of the political realignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the NDC Integrity Group maintaining its party identity while announcing support for candidates from other political parties at the presidential and senatorial levels.
