As Kogi State counts down to the October 17 Local Government elections, the State Independent Electoral Commission, KOSIEC, says all is set for a credible, peaceful and transparent exercise.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri gave the assurance in Lokoja when members of the State House of Assembly Committee on SIEC paid an oversight visit to the Commission.
Hon. Eri told the lawmakers that preparations have entered operational stage, with training of electoral personnel, deployment of Returning Officers and logistics for sensitive materials already in progress.
According to him, the Commission has intensified consultations with political parties, civil society organizations, traditional institutions and security agencies, while expanding voter education to deepen civic awareness.
He stressed that inclusivity remains central to the Commission’s plans, with special provisions to ensure full participation of women, youth and persons with disabilities.
“Our objective is to deliver an election that is credible, peaceful, transparent, inclusive and acceptable to the people of Kogi State,” Hon. Eri stated.
He noted that the Commission has strengthened its communication system and launched its official website, www.kosiec.org to enhance transparency and public access to information.
The KOSIEC Chairman while appreciating the Governor’s support, called for sustained collaboration to consolidate the independence and professionalism of the Commission.
KOSIEC assured that the October 17 polls will be conducted in line with democratic principles to strengthen grassroots governance and public confidence.
Earlier, Chairman, House Committee on SIEC, Hon. Suleiman Abdulrazak said the visit was to assess KOSIEC’s preparedness and identify areas requiring legislative support.
Hon. Abdulrazak commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for equipping the Commission with operational vehicles, renovated facilities and other logistics, describing the gesture as a boost to grassroots democracy.
