The people of Odenyi Extension, also known as Caterpillar Community in Akuba II, Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, have urged the Chairman of the council, Mr Theophilus Daruwana Adama to intervene for the restoration of the polling unit of the community.
The community made the call during a courtesy visit on the Chairman at Oguma.
It appealed to the chairman to intervene over the cancellation of its polling unit, which the community said was done for reasons unknown to them.
According to the delegation, the community has hundreds of eligible voters.
The delegation was led by a former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Yahaya Bello, Mr Timothy Akubo.
Speaking during the visit, an elder statesman from the community, Mr John Amanabo, commended the chairman for his efforts in tackling insecurity, which he said had restored peace in the local government area.
Amanabo said the visit was to express solidarity and affirm the community’s support for the Adama-led administration.
The delegation also appealed for farm inputs to boost agricultural productivity, noting that farming is the major occupation of the people, and requested the provision of solar-powered streetlights to address darkness in the community at night.
Responding, Mr Adama thanked the community for the visit and for acknowledging his administration’s efforts.
The chairman said it was not possible to meet the needs of all communities at once but assured the delegation that their demands would be considered when opportunities arise.
He said other communities in the local government would also benefit from dividends of democracy in due course, and urged the people of Odenyi Extension to remain law-abiding, stressing that no meaningful development could take place without peace.
