The All Progressives Congress has appointed Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as chairman of its National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, was named chairman of the Youth Mobilisation Committee.
The appointments were announced in a statement on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to Morka, the campaign council will be chaired by Uzodimma, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, were appointed as co-chairmen.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, will serve as deputy chairman, while the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, will serve as secretary.
Morka said Ododo will head the youth mobilisation committee, one of the specialised sub-committees constituted to coordinate campaign activities ahead of the poll. Dayo Israel will serve as secretary of the committee.
He said the campaign council comprises eminent party leaders, governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers and other key stakeholders.
The party listed the specialised sub-committees to include election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, contact and grassroots engagement, logistics and campaign management, monitoring and compliance, protocol, media and publicity, security, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, special interest mobilisation and secretariat.
Ododo’s appointment is seen as recognition of his growing influence within the ruling party and his appeal among youths.
The party said the campaign council and its sub-committees would be inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja ahead of the commencement of campaigns for the governorship poll.
