Avoid Drug Abuse, It Destroys and Kills, Says Kogi State Youth and Sports Commissioner

The Kogi State Government has charged youths in the state to desist from drugs abuse.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, gave the charge during a visit to rehabilitated drug abuse victims at the Rehabilitation Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Lokoja.

Mr Anyebe said the government condemned drugs abuse in its entirety, noting that it destroys and kills, and advised Kogi youths and Nigerians at large to avoid it.

He urged parents to closely monitor their children from childhood regarding the dangers of drugs abuse and other negative vices capable of endangering their future.

The Commissioner said drug abuse is dangerous to life and urged victims to leave it behind and embrace positive mindedness towards the growth and development of society at large.

Mr.Anyebe said the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remains committed to the progress and development of youths in Kogi State, and he advised them to embrace discipline and decorum for the betterment of their lives.

The Commissioner commended the State Commandant of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Umar Mustapha, for his dedication and commitment at the rehabilitation centre, adding that the present administration under Governor Ododo is impressed with the innovative approach adopted at the centre.

He said the Ministry will continue to partner with the Nigeria Correctional Service in Kogi State in the fight against drugs abuse in the state and Nigeria at large.

The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Umar Mustapha, said the rehabilitation centre was established to ensure that drug abuse victims are rehabilitated and freed from the habit.

The Commandant appealed to the Kogi State Government for partnership, particularly regarding the provision of sports facilities at the centre.
