The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Project (L-PRES) in Kogi State has commenced training of two thousand, five hundred stakeholders on Antimicrobial Resistance, a major global health threat caused by misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in humans, animals, and plants.
The two day Capacity Building Workshop and Stakeholders Sensitization on Antimicrobial Resistance AMR was organised for Livestock Farmers, Veterinary Doctors, Human Doctors and Environmental Health Professionals.
The Project Coordinator of Kogi L-PRES, Mr. Otaru Abdulkabir Onoruoyiza, while speaking at the workshop in Lokoja, noted that the training will be extended to Kabba, Okene and Anyigba in a bid to spread the campaign.
According to him, the training became imperative due to the knowledge gap in the use and withdrawal of drugs and vaccines.
He noted that the training focuses on the safety of antibiotics and other related drugs as what the people consume is important to the health.
Mr. Onoruoyiza commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing the political will for the Project to thrive especially payment of counterparts fund.
Commissioner of Health, Adams Abdulazeez, represented by the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Austine Ojotule assured of the support of the Ministry to the development of livestock especially reduction of Antimicrobial Resistance to the barest minimum in the State.
Commissioner of Livestock Development, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin represented by Shuaib Husseini said Antimicrobial Resistance remains a threat to humans and animals, stressing the need to develop strategies to tackle it.
