The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, has said the commitment of the state government to workers’ welfare remains unwavering.
Edoka stated this in Lokoja when members of the Kogi State Chapter of the Association of Professional Secretaries of Trade Unions paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Government House.
He said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had continued to place workers’ welfare on the front burner, noting that the various interventions introduced since the inception of the administration were commendable.
According to him, the prompt implementation of the minimum wage, over two years tax holiday for workers, health insurance scheme, cash-backing of promotions, full payment of salaries to local government workers, and full payment of hazard allowance to doctors and other health personnel, among other welfare packages, deserve commendation.

Edoka urged members of the association to see the state as theirs and contribute meaningfully to its development through constructive engagement, noting that the relationship between government and labour had been cordial.
“The relationship between government and labour has been very cordial because the governor does not take the welfare of workers lightly. The programmes concerning workers are numerous and impactful. This is a departure from the past and we can boldly say that the era of crisis between government and labour is now a thing of the past,” he said.
The Special Adviser appealed to the professional secretaries to add value to the labour movement, assuring that government would continue to prioritise workers’ welfare.
He also called on them to support the administration to ensure sustainable development of the state.
Earlier, the spokesperson for the delegation, Comrade Owoeye Oladipupo, said the visit was to familiarise with the Special Adviser, whom he described as a leader whose legacies in the labour movement remained unbeatable.
Oladipupo congratulated Edoka on his appointment, saying Governor Ododo made the right choice by appointing him, and solicited support for the association.
He assured that the body would continue to discharge its duties diligently.
