Sports has come to stay in Kogi, says commissioner

The Kogi State Government has restated its commitment to sports development, saying it will continue to promote youth engagement, talent discovery and unity through sports.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, stated this on Saturday at the grand finale of the 2026 Provost’s Cup held at the Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa.

Anyebe said the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo would not relent in supporting initiatives that create opportunities for young people and promote peace and unity in the state.

He said, “Sports has come to stay in Kogi State. This government will sustain its support for athletes and all stakeholders to ensure that our youths are meaningfully engaged.”

The commissioner commended the Provost of the college, Dr Ibrahim Muhammad Kebiru, for organising the week-long competition, describing it as a laudable platform for student engagement and talent hunt.

He pledged the ministry’s continued support for sporting activities in the institution and urged the management to sustain efforts at nurturing talents.

Earlier, Kebiru said the Provost’s Cup was organised to foster unity among students and strengthen ties between the college, the host community and the state government.

He thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his support for the institution and appreciated the commissioner for honouring the invitation.

The week-long competition featured football, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis and cultural displays.

Anyebe was accompanied to the event by the Chairman of the forthcoming Governor Ododo All-Campus Games, Comrade Michael Achor Joshua.
