The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to deepen peace, unity and mutual understanding across religious and ethnic divides.
Akpabio, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), described the Prophet’s life and teachings as a timeless model of compassion, tolerance, humility and service to humanity.
He called on Muslim faithful to dedicate the celebration to prayers for peace, security, economic prosperity and progress of the country.
“As we commemorate this sacred day, I urge our Muslim brothers and sisters to reflect on the virtues of the Prophet and to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and progress in our dear country, Nigeria,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President said Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, urging citizens to embrace love, forgiveness and mutual respect irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
According to him, the country needs the prayers of religious leaders and the faithful at a time when efforts are being made to strengthen security, improve the economy and promote unity.
“In these times, our nation needs the prayers of all religious leaders and faithful. Let us use this period to pray for our leaders, for security, economic prosperity, and for the unity that binds us together as one people under God,” he added.
Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th Senate to enacting legislation and supporting policies that protect religious freedom, promote national cohesion and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
He felicitated President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima and wished Muslims in Nigeria and across the world a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
