Parents Must Look Beyond Spending Money On Children And, Follow Up Their Activities”-Dr. Gunwa Says at 81

A former Sole Administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area, Dr. Grace Gunwa has urged parents to look beyond spending money to train their children but do the needed follow up on their activities.

Dr. Gunwa made the remark in an Interview with Our Reporter in Lokoja, shortly after her 81st Birthday Thanksgiving held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG Region 24 headquarters, City of Grace.

It was an atmosphere of joy as Family, friends and Political Associates gathered at the Regional Headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of Grace Region 24 Lokoja to celebrate Octogenarian Dr. Grace Gunwa, a former Sole Administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area Council in 1991.

Dr. Gunwa, who used the occasion to express appreciation to God and all that have supported her also commented on the increase in the rate of societal ills.

She expressed concern over the level of moral decadence in the Society and enjoined parents to take full responsibility for the upbringing of their children and teach them the fear of God.

Dr Gunwa noted that the family as the primary agent of socialization has failed in their responsibilities, hence the level of involvement of youths in thuggery, prostitution and internet fraud among others.

Deaconess Gunwa, a Graduate of Zoology, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria explained that laziness, Lack of satisfaction and quest to live high life are factors that attract youths to prostitution and internet fraud as well as other social vices.

She advised parents to monitor the association of their children with the view of knowing the kinds of company that they keep.

According to her, the upbringing of a child is a call for Mother and father to come together to be responsive and responsible in the task of taking care of their children.

She also urged Okun youths to come together, unite and speak with one voice on a new Ijumu and Okun that the founding fathers and take steps to actualize the set goals.

On his part, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Dr. Stephen Olorunfemi described Deaconess Grace Gunwa as an epitome of humility and a virtuous woman that should be emulated by mothers, especially the young ones.
