Kogi State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday led other stakeholders in a sensitisation road walk against drug abuse and trafficking.
The walk which begins at the Paparanda Square to Government House is part of activities to mark the twenty twenty-four International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking scheduled to hold on Wednesday twenty sixth of this month.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Kogi State Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Umar Mustapha Yahuza, said it was aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of substance abuse.
He noted that this year’s theme, “The difference is clear, Invest in prevention” was key as prevention is the most effective way to address drug Abuse and addiction, saying prevention is the key to ensuring a healthier, safer and more productive youthful population.
While describing Drug as a catalyst to most of the vices in the society, Mr. Yahuza said the command is making progress in the fight against drug abuse in view of the series of arrest and seizures of assorted drugs made so far.
The Commander called on the people of the State to support the command with useful information in ensuring a drug free Kogi State.
Also speaking, Kogi State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe said as citizens and particularly as youths, there was need to join hands to kill and kick-out the abuse of drugs in the society and particularly, Kogi State.
Special Adviser to the Governor on War Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Eunice Achimugu stressed the need to rapidly bring an end to drug abuse.
On his part, Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Abdullahi Adamu, said there was need for him to join the NDLEA in sensitizing the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
In their various remarks, Representative of Chachavivi Women and Girlchild Development Foundation, National Orientation Agency, NYSC, NYCN, NAKOSS, Representative of Confluence Willers Cyclist, Asalu Olayombo, said they were glad to participate in the walk and assured of their continued support to the NDLEA in sensitizing the public on the harmful effects of Drug.
