Kogi Govt To Increase Tourism Budgetary Allocation

Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board says it is partnering with the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning to increase budgetary allocation to the Tourism Sector.

Chairman of the Board, Prince Philip Orebiyi gave the indication while speaking on this week’s edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi Audience Participatory Programme.

One major challenge affecting the growth of the Tourism Sector in the country is the poor budgetary allocation to the sector which has the capacity to improve the internally generated revenue of the State and create thousands of job opportunities.

This the Chairman of Kogi Hotels and Tourism Board, Prince Philip Orebiyi noted will not be business as usual as Government has indicated interest to tap into the tourism sector to project the State to the world.

According to him, the State Government is set to increase the annual Budget of the Ministry in the next fiscal year, describing Tourism as a creative industry.

He stressed the need to review the law establishing the Hotels and Tourism Board to fit into the current trend.

On the forthcoming international Kogi Carnival, the Chairman said efforts are being made with engagement of experts in the sector to tell Kogi Story in terms of Tourism Potentials to the world.

A Caller, Mr. Oluwasanmi from Lokoja expressed appreciation to the Chairman for making an effort to improve the Sector, calling for its sustenance.
