The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released the schedule for both bye-elections and re-run elections necessitated by vacancies in the National and State Houses of Assembly.
A statement by the National Commissioner & Chairman, Information Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the vacancies were declared following the resignation or demise of several members of the legislative bodies, and those declared by court judgements
The vacancies span across two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, impacting nine states within the federation.
Additionally, the Commission is set to conduct re-run elections based on directives from various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals affecting 35 constituencies.
The elections that iis slated to occur simultaneously across all affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3rd, 2023 where tthree constituencies will have comprehensive re-run elections, and others will involve specific polling units.
The statement, said, the Commission has uploaded the detailed timetable, including crucial delimitation data such as registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, on its official website and social media platforms, with the aim of guiding political parties, candidates, and the general public.
While emphasizing the significance of adhering to the outlined timelines for a smooth and efficient electoral process, the commission urged strict compliance from all parties and candidates involved in the elections.
