The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe, has congratulated the Chairman-elect of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Achor Emmanuel, and 20 other newly elected council chairmen in the state.
Anyebe described their emergence as an opportunity to deepen grassroots development and strengthen democratic governance.
In a congratulatory message on Sunday, the commissioner said Emmanuel’s victory was a call to purposeful leadership, accountability and commitment to public service.
He expressed optimism that the new chairmen would promote inclusive governance and sustainable development in line with the development agenda of Governor Ahmed Ododo.
Anyebe commended Ododo for his commitment to democratic principles, noting that a virile local government system remains critical to bringing government closer to the people.
He said effective administration at the grassroots demands visionary leadership, prudent management of public resources and commitment to improving citizens’ welfare.
The commissioner urged the chairmen to prioritise the welfare of their constituents, improve rural infrastructure and create opportunities for youths and women to stimulate economic activities in their domains.
He also charged them to work with traditional rulers, community leaders and civil society organisations to promote peace and facilitate development.
According to him, local governments occupy a strategic position in service delivery, and as such, the new chairmen must demonstrate integrity, transparency and fiscal discipline.
Anyebe said their victories should be seen not merely as political achievements but as a mandate to serve with diligence and fairness.
He wished Emmanuel and the other chairmen successful tenures and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
