Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of former Governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who died on Sunday.
Governor Ododo, who also directed that national and state flags be flown at half-mast across government offices and public institutions during the mourning period, announced this when he visited the residence of the late former governor to commiserate with the family.
In a condolence letter to the family, the governor described Former Governor Idris’s death as a profound loss to Kogi State and Nigeria, saying he was an eminent son of the state who devoted a significant part of his life to the service of the people.
He announced that the deceased would be given a state burial, with the state government taking full responsibility for the expenses and making arrangements to accord him honour befitting a former governor.
Governor Ododo noted that the administration of late Ibrahim Idris recorded interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical sectors, noting that his contributions remain part of the developmental history of the state.
He said the late former governor would also be remembered for his commitment to public service and the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people.
The governor, on behalf of the government and people of the state, condoled with the ex Governor Idris family, friends and associates.
He prayed Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give the family and the people of the state the fortitude to bear the loss.
Idris served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012.
