Executive Director, Aid For Orphans, Widows and Vulnerable Peoples Initiative, (AFOWVPI), Reverend David Kayode Ojuola has urged government to do all within its powers to reduce the current economic hardship in Nigeria.
Reverend Ojuola was speaking in Lokoja at the fourth Anniversary of the Non Governmental Organization in Lokoja.
He said the call was necessary considering the poverty level among Nigerians, stressing that improved plans would avert the proposed planned protests by some groups.
According to him, the aim of the organization is to impact positively on the lives of the vulnerable and less privileged persons in the society.
The Executive Director named some of the achievements in the last four years yo include widows and youth empowerment, support to orphanages, the vulnerable, medical and education support among others.
Reverend Ojuola maintained that the NGO has been consistent in realizing its dream, saying the humanitarian services would continue until they are called to the life beyond.
According to him, Nigerians are currently living below poverty level hence the need for quick intervention.
He admonished government to listen to the complains of people adding that, the hardship in Nigeria is becoming unbearable.
“My advice is that Government should listen to the complains of people and amend some of their policies to make live easy. Is not only the youths or the poor that are suffering, the rich are also crying in Nigeria.
As for the people planning for the protest, I will say let them cancel it because we want peace. We are all aware of what is going on in Uganda, Sudan, and Kenya. If they protest, it will make life worst. We are pleading to the Youths to suspend the protest and see what the government is willing to do to ameliorate the current suffering in our land”, he stated.
He expressed appreciation to God for the journey so far, adding that the contribution of their children remains invaluable and prayed for God’s protection in the period ahead.
