Liberia’s political landscape is characterized by stability and calm, according to a comprehensive country report submitted to the ECOWAS Parliament by Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., who led the Liberian delegation.
The report highlights President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s effective leadership as the driving force behind the country’s sustained political stability, security, economy, and human rights.
“The Liberian Political Situation remains stable under the government of His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr, who was elected through a free, fair and transparent democratic process in November of 2023,” the report states.
The report also notes the establishment of an Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force, a war and economic crimes court, and the appointment of Brigadier General Geraldine George as Defense Minister.
However, the report expresses concerns about regional security threats, drug trafficking, and the need for national reconciliation.
On the economic front, the report projects real GDP growth to rise in the coming years, with a focus on expansions in various sectors and strong investments.
“The government’s macroeconomic policy thrust continues to focus on priority areas,” the report states. “The total approved resource envelope for FY 2024 is US$692,409,245.53.”
The report also focuses on Liberia’s progress in meeting four out of six macroeconomic convergence criteria.
Overall, the report presents a positive outlook for Liberia’s stability and economic growth under President Boakai’s leadership.
