A Medical Expert, Dr. Simon Akogu has emphasized the need for the people of Kogi State to be vigilant and take precautions following the outbreak of Cholerae in some States.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prince Abubakar Audu, Dr. Akogu stated this in an Exclusive interview with Radio Kogi on Monday.
Speaking in an interview, the Provost of College of Health Sciences, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Osara, Dr. Simon Akogu said though Kogi is not among the affected States, the people need to take preventive measures.
According to him, Cholerae is a deadly contaminated disease with symptoms such as, watery faeces, vomiting, weakness and dehydration.
He noted that the disease is contacted from contaminated food, water and meat, urging the people to always wash their hands with soap and water.
The Provost stressed the need to avoid open defecation, pointing out that the people must be vigilant to avoid outbreak of the disease in the State.
He added that potable drinking water is important for disease control, especially Cholerae.
Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated.
It is caused by eating food, fruits or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae and has presently affected over thirty States in the country.
