The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved a waiver exempting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from undergoing the party’s screening process ahead of its forthcoming presidential primaries, effectively clearing him to participate.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the decision was said to have been reached at the APC’s 188th NWC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, with the leadership invoking its constitutional powers to grant waivers under special circumstances in the interest of the party.

The committee justified its action by citing widespread endorsements already secured by the president from key organs of the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum and members of the National Assembly. It also referenced a prior vote of confidence passed during the APC National Summit in May 2025, describing the additional screening requirement as unnecessary given Tinubu’s status as the incumbent president and leader of the party.

The NWC further noted that Tinubu had successfully undergone the party’s screening process ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, arguing that subjecting him to the same procedure again would be redundant. The waiver, it said, ensures a streamlined process as the party prepares for its internal elections.
