A Code of practice has been introduced for members of National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners, NANTMP, in Kogi State.
Chairman of NANTMP in the State who also doubles as the Onu Igala Otto Awori-Lagos, Chief (Doctor) Ibrahim Amodu disclosed this while speaking to Our Reporter in a telephone interview.
Doctor Ibrahim Amodu said the introduction of code of practice was part of measures aimed at bringing sanity in the practice of traditional medicine.
According to him, there should be a deviation from the past experience where a lot of evils and wrong doings were witnessed among practitioners.
He particularly stated that under the new code of practice, it will be an offence to harm anyone, kill, or aid criminals, including kidnappers, saying any member caught will have himself to blame.
“Let me warn members that it will no longer be business as usual, using traditional medicine to cause harm of whatever form will not be tolerated”, he stated.
Doctor Ibrahim Amodu explained that traditional medicine should be used to heal rather than other evil intentions, urging members to use their opportunities to develope individuals and the society.
The NANTMP Chairman also cautioned members against using beads meant for traditional rulers, saying it was wrong and emphasized that security agents may be used to enforce the code of practice where necessary.
He assured that the code of practice for traditional medicine practitioners will be made available to chairmen across the state to enable them educate members with a view to attaining set objectives.
Doctor Ibrahim Amodu appealed to NANTMP members from across Kogi State to support his vision for the Association, stressing that the growth and development of the Association requires collective efforts.
