Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KSHIA) says it is committed to ensuring universal health coverage through affordable and out of pocket health care.
Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Adekunle Aledare stated this on Wednesday during a Special Edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi Audience Participatory programme.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals global target to attain Universal Health Coverage, a health care system in which all residents of a particular country or region are assured access to health care, the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency was established in twenty eighteen.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency while speaking on the programme, said KSHIA is currently scaling up coverage of health insurance in the State.
Doctor Aledare, who stated that the importance of Health Insurance cannot be overemphasized, described it as the best way of accessing affordable health care service at minimal cost.
According to him, over one hundred and forty eight thousand beneficiaries have been enrolled in the programme so far in different programmes of the scheme.
On the Formal Sector plan, the Executive Secretary explained that twelve thousand State civil servants are already benefitting from the programme saying plans are on to onboard Local Government workers, Primary Teachers and pensioners.
He stated that very soon, a taskforce will be constituted to monitor the activities of accredited healthcare facilities with Specialist Hospital Local as a pilot hospital.
Doctor Aledare used the programme to pay glowing tributes to the immediate past Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello for establishing the Agency, saying the present administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is consolidating effectively by demonstrating political will.
Callers on the programme commended the remarkable effort of the Agency.
