The caretaker chairman Ankpa Local Government Engineer Adamu Yahaya Mohammed has appealed to traditional rulers in Ankpa Local Government Area and Miyetti Allah to do the needful for peaceful coexistence of farmers and herders as rainy season is approaching.
He stated this during a meeting for proactive measures to curb the clash of farmers and herdsmen held in his office at Ankpa.
Engineer Yahaya, who was represented by his press secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Yahaya said it has been a set down rule that the fulani must seek consent of the community through the traditional ruler of such community, and due process must be followed to avoid nuisance and conflict in the community stressing that farm is very important to the farmer as cattle are important to the herdsmen as such no one should suffer at the expense of the other to enhance peaceful environment.
The chairman sternly warned against breach of peace, expressing that any defaulter will pay for damages and will be prosecuted accordingly.
In a brief, the DSS boss Ankpa Local Government Area Ibrahim Yahaya said no one is more Nigerian than the other, adding that the objective of the meeting is to prevent farm destruction and killing of cows.
He outlined some preventive measures to curb clash, saying that herders should return from grazing early when they can see their way clearly, they should relate with the community leaders so that their trusted youths can join hands with the vigilantes to keep watch and they should stop putting the under age children in charge of herds stressing that there should be proper documentation of fulani residing in the various communities in Ankpa Local Government as he urged farmers to always report destruction of their farm and not to take laws into their hands by killing the cows.
