Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the proposed Lokoja International Airport, expressing optimism that President Bola Tinubu could land at the facility next year.

Governor Ododo spoke during an inspection of the project site, where he commended President Tinubu for approving and supporting the airport project.

He said the facility, when completed, would boost economic activities, attract investment and improve connectivity between Kogi State and other parts of the country.

The governor also dismissed concerns about the viability of the project, urging critics to visit the site and assess the level of work.

“This is not magic, and this is not artificial intelligence. This is real. I came here to assess the project myself,” he said.

Governor Ododo described the project as evidence of the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and urged residents to support Tinubu’s administration for sustained development.

Earlier, the lead consultant, Architect Adedayo Adidigbe, put the project’s completion level at 25 per cent and commended the governor for his support.

However, the project manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited, Kogi State Project Office, Engineer Sun Yishi, said work had reached approximately 20 per cent completion.

Yishi explained that construction was currently focused on earthworks for the runway and associated safety areas, involving excavation, filling, laterite placement and ground preparation ahead of pavement construction.

The proposed international airport is expected to strengthen transportation infrastructure, facilitate trade and investment, and improve access to Kogi State.
