The Ancient town of Egbeda Egga in Ijumu Local Government Area came alive over the weekend as Dignitaries, sons and daughters of the community gathered to celebrate this year’s Egbeda Egga Day.
Saturday last week was colourful and eventful as Dignitaries joined indigenes of Egbeda Egga Community to celebrate this year’s Egbeda Egga Day amidst dancing and singing.
The National President of Egbeda Egga Development Union, Dr. Emmanuel Otitolaiye said the Community has built on success of the past to celebrate the culture and traditions of the community.
According to him, the Ceremony was organised to raise funds for self help that the Community development, stressing the need for community together.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Mr. Funsho Olumoko advised the Leaders of Egbeda Egga Community to brainstorm and strategize on how to take advantage of the present administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to attract democracy dividends to the Community.
Mr. Olumoko, who is the Pro Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State noted that though self help has been the trademark of Okun people, the effort of Government is needed to achieve more.
The members representing Kabba/Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency, Arc. Salman Idris, that of Ijumu Constituency, Princess Omotayo Adeleye Ishaya the Provost of Kogi State College of Education Ankpa, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba and Idris Oluwafemi described culture as a necessary tool for unity and development.
On his part, the Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Haruna Ibrahim pledged his commitment to making Ijumu safe for businesses to thrive.
While the Olu Adde of Ekinrin Adde, Olu Anthony Bamigbaiye called for unity, love and oneness in Ijumu, the Obaro of Egbeda Egga enjoined sons and daughters of Egbeda Egga to be united and law abiding.
