The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to use the 100-day countdown to the 2027 General Election to deepen public engagement and provide stakeholders with a fresh assessment of its readiness for the polls.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission said it would hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Abuja to mark the milestone.

The engagement, to be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other key stakeholders, is expected to focus on major aspects of the Commission’s preparations, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

INEC said the meeting would provide an opportunity to update the public and key actors in the electoral process as the country moves into the critical final stretch before the elections.

Participants are expected to include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, election observer groups and disability rights advocates.

Religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected at the meeting.

The Commission said the stakeholder engagement was designed to strengthen transparency, proactive communication and collaboration among actors within the electoral ecosystem ahead of the 2027 polls.

The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja, with attendance strictly by invitation.

INEC said the proceedings would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.

Accredited media representatives and invited guests are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at designated security checkpoints.
