Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has warned political actors and their supporters against violence, hate speech and intimidation as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Ododo said issue-based campaign, tolerance and respect for democratic principles must form the foundation of political participation in the state.
The governor made the call in a statement by his Special Adviser on Electronic Media, Yusuf Adebayo Ohiare.
He said political differences must not be allowed to undermine the unity, security and development of the state.
Governor Ododo had earlier charged first-class traditional rulers to use their exalted positions to promote peace and discourage political thuggery and other forms of electoral violence.
He urged political parties and their supporters to respect one another, uphold the rule of law and allow eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear or coercion.
The governor also called on community leaders, youths, traditional institutions and security stakeholders to work collectively to prevent political disagreements from degenerating into violence.
According to him, as preparations for the 2027 elections continue, all stakeholders must place the peace and stability of Kogi above individual or partisan interests.
He maintained that every political party, candidate, supporter and citizen has a responsibility to ensure that the state remains peaceful before, during and after the elections.
