The Independent National Electoral Commission has restored the Yagba West II State Constituency in Kogi State following court judgments ordering the reinstatement of previously suppressed constituencies.
INEC announced this in a statement on Friday by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
Haruna said four state constituencies have now been restored – Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.
According to him, the commission has fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for the restored constituencies.
He said the exercise would coincide with primaries for bye-elections into other recently vacant constituencies, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State; Udu State Constituency of Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.
INEC also scheduled September 19, 2026, for elections into the affected constituencies.
The restoration means voters in Yagba West II will again elect a representative into the Kogi State House of Assembly in compliance with the court judgments.
The commission said all other timelines and activities in its revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 general election would apply to the restored constituencies.
It directed political parties intending to field candidates in the restored constituencies to submit notices of their primaries to the commission before the scheduled dates.
Haruna added that the restoration was part of efforts to implement court judgments and ensure the affected constituencies are incorporated into the electoral process, while reaffirming the commission’s commitment to credible, inclusive and transparent elections.
