The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Kogi State Chapter, has moved to strengthen ties with the Bureau of Lands, pitching for robust collaboration on physical planning and land administration.

The visit, led by State Chairman, Tpl. Sani Daniel, FNITP, was aimed at acquainting the new Director General, Tpl. Salihu-Otaru Kehinde Augustine, with the institute’s mission and exploring areas of mutual benefit.

Daniel told the DG that effective land administration and professional physical planning are two sides of the same coin.

He argued that neither can stand alone if sustainable development is the goal.

The NITP boss specifically identified development planning, layout preparation, urban renewal, GIS and digital land management, development control, and policy formulation as areas where the two bodies could work together seamlessly.

“Our members are ready to offer technical and professional expertise to strengthen land management, reduce disputes, and support your urban development agenda,” Daniel said.

The DG in a remark welcomed the institute’s overture. Salihu-Otaru acknowledged town planners’ crucial role in sustainable development and promised the Bureau’s willingness to collaborate with NITP.

The Bureau boss noted that stronger ties between both institutions would lead to orderly urban growth, better service delivery, and the realisation of the State Government’s vision for modern, functional cities.

The meeting also explored possibilities for joint technical engagements, policy dialogue, professional training programmes, and public awareness campaigns.

According to NITP’s Public Relations Secretary, Deborah Oshamehin, MNITP, the visit underscores the chapter’s commitment to engaging key government institutions and strategic stakeholders.
