Ododo Joins Masari to Lead APC 2026 Convention Planning as Party Inaugurates 92-Member Committee

Ahead of its national convention slated for next month, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 92-member National Convention Coordinating Committee, charging members to deliver a transparent, inclusive and credible exercise.

Among prominent members of the committee is Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, whose inclusion underscores the breadth of representation across the party’s leadership structure.

The committee is chaired by former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari. Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will serve as vice chairmen. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, is designated Treasurer, while Yobe State Governor and former National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mai Mala Buni, will serve as Secretary.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) also constituted 17 sub-committees to oversee critical operational, administrative, electoral, logistics, security and programme activities to guarantee a seamless convention.

Speaking at the inauguration held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the former National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, described the exercise as a significant milestone in the APC’s progressive trajectory. He said the convention would reaffirm the party’s democratic credentials and organisational strength.

“A convention like ours is not merely a gathering; it is an affirmation of our democratic values and a demonstration to Nigerians that the APC remains the most organised and forward-looking political party in the country,” Ganduje said.

He cited the party’s recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano and Rivers states as evidence of its expanding support base, urging committee members to rise above partisan interests and deliver a convention befitting of a governing party under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Masari expressed gratitude to the party leadership and President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in members, pledging that the 2026 National Convention would be peaceful, credible and transparent.

He described the convention as more than a statutory obligation, but a defining moment for reflection, consolidation and renewed commitment to internal democracy and unity.

Masari emphasised discipline, inclusiveness and transparency, warning that personal ambitions must not undermine party cohesion.

“We must approach this assignment with maturity, fairness and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines,” he said, assuring members that the committee would work collectively to strengthen and unify the APC ahead of future electoral contests.
