The President of the Farms, Flowers and Allied Products Initiative, Mrs Christy Sani Yakubu, has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening food security and boosting agricultural productivity across Nigeria.

She made this known while delivering the opening remarks at the All Year Round Farming Training held on Thursday in Abuja.

Mrs Yakubu noted that as climate patterns shift and global food systems evolve, year-round farming has become a necessity rather than an option, emphasising that the training seeks to equip farmers with practical knowledge in resilient crop cultivation, digitised farm management, and improved water and soil conservation techniques that support sustainable production throughout the year.

According to her, the Farms, Flowers and Allied Products Initiative has consistently championed innovative and sustainable agricultural practices, drawing inspiration from global farming communities that deploy smart technologies to overcome seasonal barriers. She encouraged participants to engage actively, share experiences, and embrace new methods that support inclusive and climate-smart farming.

In her presentation, the Secretary of the Initiative, Mrs Florence Andy, took participants through the detailed objectives of the year-round farming theme.

She highlighted goals such as continuous food production, increased farmer income, efficient land use, strengthened supply chains, reduced post-harvest losses, enhanced food security, and the adoption of environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Mrs Andy stressed that these objectives are essential for building resilient farming communities capable of withstanding climate pressures and meeting national food demands.

The training also featured an extensive technical session delivered by Mr Sunday Obasi, Desk Officer for Horticulture–Medicinal Plants at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr Obasi educated participants on the processes and critical considerations required for dry-season farming, outlining strategies needed to remain productive all year. He answered questions from farmers, offering practical guidance and clarifying requirements for successful implementation.

Participants expressed gratitude for the impactful training, noting that the knowledge gained would help improve productivity, profitability, and sustainability in their various communities.
