In a decisive show of confidence ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared total readiness to deliver what it described as a peaceful, transparent, and credible poll that truly reflects the will of the people.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, gave the assurance during a high-level inspection tour of the Commission’s facilities in Awka on Sunday, ahead of Monday’s Stakeholders’ Meeting. He vowed that the Commission would leave no room for manipulation or compromise at any stage of the exercise.

> “Our responsibility is to the people of this nation. We are fully prepared to deliver an election that is fair, credible, and reflective of the people’s will,” Prof. Amupitan stated, urging political actors and stakeholders to put national interest above partisan considerations.

Reaffirming INEC’s commitment to transparency, the Chairman warned against “attempts by vested interests to discredit the process,” emphasising that the Commission remained focused, vigilant, and undeterred in carrying out its constitutional duty.

Providing an operational briefing, Dr Elizabeth Agwu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, confirmed that all non-sensitive materials had been dispatched to the 21 local government areas, while the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) had been fully configured, tested, and cleared for deployment.

> “We have left nothing to chance. From personnel training to logistics and power backup, every measure has been taken to guarantee a seamless, technology-driven election,” Dr Agwu said, noting that generators had been deployed to critical locations to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Both Amupitan and Agwu underscored the importance of collaboration with political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, and the media, describing transparency and partnership as “the bedrock of INEC’s credibility.”

The INEC Chairman, accompanied by National Commissioners Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, Mr Sam Olumekun, Prof. Sami Adam, Dr Baba Bila, and Prof. Sunday Aja, also visited INEC offices in Oyi and Awka South Local Government Areas to inspect final readiness.

Electoral Officers Mrs Olivia Nkem (Oyi) and Mrs Ozoagu Chinyere (Awka South) conducted the team around their facilities, showcasing election materials batched for movement to Registration Areas.

Amupitan directed that all materials must arrive at polling units by 7:00 a.m., voting must commence at 8:30 a.m. sharp, and collation must take place openly in the presence of party agents, with results aligning strictly with BVAS data.

He also assured that robust security measures had been put in place to protect voters, personnel, and materials across the state.

With this final round of verification, INEC says it has sent an unmistakable signal of its operational strength, preparedness, and commitment to credible democracy in Anambra State.
