The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared open the campaign window for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

In a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission said political parties participating in the polls can now commence electioneering in public from Wednesday, 24 September 2025, until midnight on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

INEC, however, reminded political parties, candidates, and their supporters that campaigns must adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. Specifically, Sections 92 and 93 outlaw the use of foul or abusive language, physical attacks on opponents during rallies, processions, and meetings, or the destruction of campaign materials.

The Commission further emphasized that all parties and candidates are entitled to unhindered access to public facilities for rallies, outdoor advertising, and media engagement. It restated that under Section 95(2) of the Act, incumbency must not be exploited to confer advantage or disadvantage on any candidate or party.

The FCT Area Council elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
