Kogi Government says it has immunized about 77, 495 children in rural communities across seven Local Government Areas of the state.
The State Immunization Officer, Dr. Grace Ojofedo made this known to newsmen on Monday following the successful completion of the “Big -Catch -UP” Polio Immunization program in the state.
According to her, the development will help to consolidate on the 10-year-old polio-free status of the State.
Dr. Ojofedo said the exercise were carried out in communities that were not earlier properly captured in the last year immunization program.
“The program was done in 7 LGAs in the state. A Total of 80608 vaccines were used and a total number of 77495 children were immunized. ”
The SIO said the state recorded 99% coverage rate but also suffered 5 percent wastage rate in he latest program carried out between January 6 – January 13, 2025.
She applauded UNICEF for its contribution to the program said the agency’s supports is helping the state maintain the zero polio status, stressing that the state will not spare any efforts to consolidate on its Polio-free status.
“These latest exercise helped us to consolidate on the achievement recorded in the 1st phase of polio Immunization last year. With this, we have taken polio Immunization to every nook and cranny of the state”.
She said the recent concluded exercise were carried out in remote communities, eulogizing UNICEF for their commitment to the eradication of childhood killer diseases in the state.
