16 DAYS ACTIVISM: Kogi First Lady Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo calls on Government, NGO’s, Civil Society Organizations, Individuals To Take Proactive Measures To Curb Violence Against Women

Kogi State First Lady, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ahmed Ododo has reiterated commitment to curb Gender based violence in the state.

Hajiya Sefinat stated this during this year’s celebration of sixteen Days activism marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against in Lokoja.

The First Lady said, her office was ready to partner with Non Governmental and civil societies organizations to combat violence against women and girls, urging women to always use decorum in addressing issue to avoid violence.

She promised to continue to make case for women and girls in the state, stressing that it was a collective responsibility to find a lasting solution by uprooting the root causes.

Hajiya Sefinat noted that Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world and promised to take campaigns to the three senatorial districts in the state.

The first lady appreciated Mrs Oluremi Tinubu and her husband Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for their efforts at bettering the lives of women in the state and country at large.

In her remark, the state Commissioner of women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Momoh said gender based violence is pervasive and demand attention, stressing that about one hundred and forty women are killed every day, one among three women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.

Hajiya Fatima Reiterated Government’s readiness to create Equal Opportunities for women and recognizing human rights issues.

The State coordinator, Human Rights commission, Barister Nuhu Muhammad appreciated the first Lady for the opportunity to be part of the sixteen days activism and promised to work for the overall protection of women and girls.

On her part, Wife of Anthony General and Commissioner for Justice, Princess Kareemat Muiz Abdullahi said gender based violence is a fight for all, urging women to stop hiding rape cases of their children and be alive to their responsibilities to groom daughters worthy of praises.

The Director-General, Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Princess Nana Hauwa Yussuff was at the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to celebrate with her Excellency.
