Kogi State Government says it is yet to record any case of Cholera in the State.
The State Epidemiologist, Doctor Austin Ojotule made this known on the State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi audience participatory programme.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as of Monday June 24th Nigeria has recorded over one thousand five hundred suspected cases of cholera and 53 deaths in 31 states across 107 Local Government Areas.
Although Kogi State is yet to record any case of the deadly disease, the State Epidemiologist, Doctor Austin Ojotule stressed the need for precautionary measures to contain Cholera.
According to him, the State is ready to combat any outbreak of disease as tertiary and secondary facilities are available while health workers have been adequately trained for any health emergency.
He noted that curbing open defecation is panacea to controlling the disease, urging Landlords to provide toilets for their tenants.
Doctor Ojotule explained that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has demonstrated the political will to combat health emergencies with the recent distribution of health equipment and other consumers to hospitals in the State.
He advised the people of the State to ensure personal hygiene and wash their hands regularly with soap and water, stressing the need to be vigilant and avoid self medication.
The Epidemiologist however enjoined health workers to embrace universal prevention methods while attending to patients.
While a Caller, Ado Ibrahim from Obajana called on landlords to provide toilets for their tenants, Amodu Zakari from Lokoja wants relevant authorities to check the activities of food vendors.
